Wikipedia can give you a much more cogent explanation of the mechanics and the methodology of the disease:

I was diagnosed with PKD in my early twenties when a regular checkup discovered some elevated blood pressure. Aside from the high blood pressure, I have lived a life relatively free of complications from the disease until just a few weeks ago when we realized that my kidney function had begun to rapidly decline and start us on this path.
Presently, I am fortunate to not experience the pain that some experience in this stage of their disease, and absent of some fatigue, I don't present many external symptoms at all. I feel tired at times, and must rest more than usual. I have been able to adjust my work schedule a bit, and I am blessed with a tremendous team that affords me the opportunity to be flexible with my schedule.
Realizing that my kidney function will continue to decline, we continue to work towards treatments options including dialysis and transplant.
